Superfoods: A closer look at Açai berries

00:00

These deep bluish purple berries grow in Central and South America and are a close relative of the blueberry, cranberry and other purple fruits. This berry is rich in antioxidants, anthocyanins, polyphenols, dietary fiber and essential fatty acids. Essential fatty acids? Yes, they contain monounsaturated oleic acid.

So why are they called superfoods? The dietary fiber and enzymes in the berries help you with digestion and nutrient absorption. Next to that they provide all vital vitamins and most important minerals. They help to boost your immune system, reduce inflammation and detoxify your body. Including açai berries in your diet can help you boost your energy levels, improve alertness, so it's a great idea to use them in your pre-workout smoothie and if all of that isn't enough these purple super berries promote a healthy and glowing skin and have anti-aging properties.
